Hexagon Pots

Hexagon Pots

A cast concrete pot design intended to tesselate. Includes alignment/mounting features so that pots can be mechanically fastened together for hanging installations.

Mold Design

Core

Initial versions of the mold used a simpler design with fewer parts, but proved impossible to remove reliably. The updated design has many more parts, but allows all mold segments to be removed by applying force directly away from the set concrete, instead of needing to be slid out as a simpler design would need to be.

Exterior Panels

The initial panel design had curved seams along the corners of the hexagon, in the hope that the curvature would help visually disguise the seam. However, drainage of water and cement through gaps in the mold made the panel seams obvious since some aggregate would be exposed near the seams.

To fix this problem, an updated design repositions the seams to be near the corners of the alignment grooves, and added wax string gaskets to reduce water/cement leakage out of the mold.

Note curved seam lines on right front pot which are much less visible on left front pot, which uses new exterior panel design
